E-Learning Strategy

The IQAC at S.V. College has realised the importance of providing a suitable and authentic e-learning platform to its students that is in accordance with the instruction imparted in the classroom, the syllabus of the University and in sync with the unique learning challenges faced by the students of  the Hindi heartland of the country. The following measures were proposed to advance an integrated e-learning strategy

Strategic Plan
Implementation Status
1
Increased use of digital teaching aids in the classroom.
Multimedia projectors are available in several departments like History, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Computer Science, etc. and are being used effectively for imparting instruction to students. A central facility of multimedia projector, speaker and computer has been developed for use by departments that do not have their own hardware.
2
A YouTube channel of the institution featuring videos of important lessons.
You tube channel of the college has been created and is being updated.
3
An e-learning studio for digital content creation.
E-Learning studio has been developed. More hardware and software is being arranged based on experience with the usage of existing infrastructure.
4
An educational blog to provide class notes, tips on making notes, use of coloured pencils/pens for greater impact in examinations, providing curated lists of online and offline resources to students, etc.
Educational Blog has been developed. Content is being updated.
5
Use of smartphones for in class learning.
Besides WhatsApp, teachers also use smartphones to show YouTube videos to students in class. The increased ownership of smartphones and awareness about the possibilities of turning it into a learning device have been helped by the sharing of these best practices in teacher's meetings.
6
Use of WhatsApp messaging platform for creating off-campus, teacher led and peer-group learning opportunities.
Many Teachers are using WhatsApp for guiding students and clearing their doubts.

Responding to the encouraging response of both teachers and students to the early steps in the digital learning initiative, the college is developing multiple digitally equipped classrooms/ seminar halls.

Teachers of S.V. College have been innovative in overcoming the restraints posed by infrastructure challenges. Teachers realised that it would be more fruitful to use existing mobile devices as students had access to the devices and were familiar with their use instead of trying  to train them in the use of expensive computing devices. While students are encouraged to learn the use and applications of computers, the widespread use of mobile phones does not allow such hurdles to impede the implementation of the digital learning strategy in the college. The increased ownership of smartphones and awareness about the possibilities of turning it into a learning device have been helped  by the sharing of these best practices in teacher's meetings.
